ABOUT US

Kula Ashtanga

Kula Ashtanga is a yoga community that practices Ashtanga Yoga in the Kamakura and Fujisawa area. After Mysore-style (individual practice), we also offer group lessons led by our instructors for beginners or for those who want to review and refine their asana practice.

The word Kula comes from Sanskrit, referring to a community of people who share similar thoughts and spirit. Kula Ashtanga is a community where, through the practice of Ashtanga Yoga, you can directly experience a deep connection not only with yourself but also with others.

What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a spiritual practice that fosters self-realization. In this dynamic style of yoga, postures (asanas) are performed continuously in coordination with the rhythm of the breath (vinyasa). By moving in sync with a breathing pattern often called victorious breath — a type of breathing that generates internal heat — energy is produced within the body, invigorating, purifying, and strengthening both mind and body. Training drishti (focused gaze) and the subtle internal actions called bandhas develops a deep holistic balance

By efficiently combining vinyasa, bandhas, drishti, and asanas, Ashtanga Yoga becomes a form of moving meditation — helping to cultivate a calm and focused mind along with a body that is light, strong, and flexible, creating an ideal condition to experience the self beyond body and mind.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is taught in the tradition passed down by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath Rangaswami at the Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI) in Mysore, South India. For more details, please refer to the official KPJAYI website.(Here)
